Setting a Default Grade of Zero

Learn how to set a default grade

Notes: Canvas users have the ability in Gradebook Settings to select a grade that would apply for missing submissions. This setting applies to assignments created natively in Canvas. StrongMind curriculum (aside from discussion boards) is delivered via LTI rather than via native Canvas, which overrides those Settings in Canvas. In order to set a default grade, please follow the steps below.

How-To Guide

  • Select Dashboard in the global navigation. Then, select the course you would like to work in.

  • Select Grades in the course navigation.

  • Hover over the title of the assignment you would like to set a default grade for.
  • Select the three vertical dots when they appear.

  • Select Set Default Grade.

  • Enter a default grade of zero (or any default grade you prefer).
  • NOTE: DO NOT select overwrite already entered grades, as this will delete any earned grades and replace them with the default.

  • Select Set Default Grade. You will het a pop up letting you know previously ungraded assignments have been updated.

  • Optional: To Set an assignment as missing or late, select the box where that zero exists. Then, select the arrow icon which will open up a sidebar.

  • Select the desired status.
