Learn to create a quiz in Canvas
Notes: There are four different quiz types to choose from.
- A graded quiz will give students points based on their graded responses.
- A practice quiz will allow students to test out how well they understand the material without a grade.
- A graded survey will give students points for completing a survey. There are no correct or incorrect answers.
- A practice survey will allow students to give their opinions without a grade.

Select Courses on the left hand side, then select All Courses.
If you're an admin, make sure you have selected the correct school and course within that school. - Select the course you want to create a quiz for. Select the Quizzes tab, then select + Quiz
- Fill in a quiz title, description, quiz type and assignment group.
- Fill in the optional fields.
- Select the Questions tab, select the + New Question.
- Fill in the question name, question type, points and text of the question.
- Select Find Questions to add a question from a quiz question bank.
- Type in answer choices If you selected a question type that requires students to select answers.
- Select the green arrow to select a correct answer.
- Select Update Question.
- Add comments to answer choices for students to read after they select an answer.
- Select the comment icons under each answer choice to add a comment for that answer.
- Select the comment icons at the bottom to add comments for each answer choice type (right answers, wrong answers, all answers).
- Select Save & Publish when done adding questions.
