Adding Content to Canvas Commons

Objective: Learn to upload content to Canvas Commons.

Notes: There are many ways to export and import content within Canvas. To import and export with this method, Canvas Commons must be enabled by your organization.

How-To Guide

  • Select the course you would like to export content from within the Course tab in Global Navigation or from your Dashboard.

  • Select Modules or Assignments to access the content you would like to export.

  • Select the kebab (vertical ellipsis) beside the module, lesson, or activity. Then, select Share to Commons from the drop down menu. This will open your content in Commons.

  • Complete the fields to set a name, the visibility settings, licensing classification, description and grade level. Then, select Save.

To Export Content from Commons

  • Select Import/Download from your imported content in Commons.

Note: You have two options here, to export to an existing course, or download content to your device to be uploaded at a later date.

  • Select the course you want to import content to from the pop up window. Then, select Import Into Course.
  • Alternatively, select Download to save to your device.
