Roles in a Course

Learn about the different roles within courses.

Notes: Contact your partner success manager if you're considering deleting or creating a new user role, as these roles are mapped to a StrongMind report. Your CSM will be able to advise you on what roles will best fulfill your needs.

 

How-To Guide

In each StrongMind course, you're able to add users and assign them roles. The roles that you assign users in a course depends on how they will be interacting with that course. The different course roles are defined below:

  • Student: Students have the ability to view course materials, interact with the course and submit assignments.
    • The students that will be participating in your course should be assigned the student role.
  • Teacher: Teachers manage the entire course by grading, editing rubrics, creating events on the class calendar and more. They also have access to SIS data and can add other users to the course.
    • The teacher who will be in charge of a course should be assigned the teacher role.
  • TA: Teacher assistants are meant to support the teacher role. They can help with grading, edit rubrics and moderate discussions. Unlike teachers, they don't have access to SIS data.
    • Those supporting your teachers in a course can be assigned the TA role.
  • Designer: Designers are able to edit course content like assignments, rubrics and discussions. They also have access to add students to a course, but they can't grade assignments or edit grades. 
    • Those helping to manage the content of courses can be assigned the designer role.
  • Observer: Observers are linked to student users enrolled in a course. They have access to view a student's progress and upcoming assignments in a course, but they can't complete any assignments on behalf of the student.
    • Parents, guardians and mentors can be added as observers.
