Create Groups

Objective: To creating a group within the Community tab in SMC.

Creating groups in an online school environment offers students a unique opportunity to foster social connections, explore shared interests, and enrich their virtual learning experience. These groups, allow students to engage in a diverse range of activities and discussions.

 

Create a Group

Note: Both School Administrators and teachers are empowered to initiate and form a new group.

  1. Select the + Create Group button.
  2. During the creation process, you'll be prompted to enter essential details:
    • Name: Assign a distinctive name to your group.
    • Welcome Message: Craft a greeting or introductory message for new members.
    • Visibility Options:
      • Visible: Set your group to “Visible” to allow it to be searched by other users and pulled into the list of available groups in the community discovery tab

      • Hidden: Set your group to “Hidden” if you do not want your group to be suggested to users or listed in the discovery tab. (Can only by accessed via invitation or direct link)

      • Public: Set your group to 'Public' to allow any member of the organization to view and access the group.

      • Private: Choose 'Private' to make your group accessible by invitation only, ensuring exclusive entry.

Community Right Tray

The following customizations can be completed:

  • Editing Rights: Moderators within a group are granted exclusive editing privileges to modify the content displayed in the right tray cards at their discretion. Members can only view the content within these cards.
  • Welcome Message Customization: The Welcome Message card is initially populated through the group creation modal and serves as an introductory statement for the group. Moderators have the flexibility to modify this message at any point from several locations, including the right tray on group pages.
  • Appointment of Group Moderators: Creators of a group, whether an administrator or a teacher, automatically assume the role of the group moderator. They have the authority to designate additional moderators, provided they are organization administrators or fellow teachers.
  • Management of Group Rules: Moderators are responsible for establishing the framework of group interaction by adding and updating the group's rules. This allows them to tailor the group dynamics following the organization's standards and the group's objectives.
