Objective: An overview of one-way messaging
Notes: Teachers now have the ability to send a student or group of students a message directly within StrongMind Central, where it will automatically be logged in the system for auditing purposes and land directly in the students' StrongMind Central inbox for review.
Note: . Students will also be able to send teachers one-way messages from their student course cards “contact instructor” button. These new messaging features pave the way for a robust communication system across StrongMind Central products.
Features
Teacher Message Student & Guardian
Teachers will be able to access their inbox from the message icon in the top navigation, from there they will be able to send a message to any student assigned to them as well as guardians of those students.
Note: By default, all messages sent from a teacher to a student will also be sent to their primary guardian.
Student Message Teacher
Students have the ability to quickly message their teachers directly from their course cards on their dashboard. They can click the “Contact Instructor” button on the bottom left of their course cards and it will open a new message with their teacher automatically populated as the recipient.

Guardian Message Teacher
Guardians have the ability to quickly message their student’s teachers directly from their student’s course cards on their dashboard.
Note: When the guardian is viewing their student’s dashboard, they can click the “Contact Instructor” button on the bottom left of their course cards and it will open a new message with their teacher automatically populated as the recipient.
Inbox Page
Users have 3 tabs on their Inbox:

Inbox: Messages sent to them

Sent: Messages they have sent

Trash: Messages they have moved from their inbox
Any unread messages will be bolded until they are clicked on and read. If a message is moved to trash before it is read, it will remain bolded in the Trash tab as well. Users will also be able to move messages out of the trash and back to their inbox by clicking on the trash can with the arrow inside of it from the Trash tab.

Note: On any tab, the user is able to click on any message, read or unread, and view the message show page to read the message. Each tab is paginated and will show 10 messages per page.

When the user receives a message, the envelope icon will display a red circle with the number of unread messages.

Users have the ability to click on the envelope to view message notifications.

If there are no messages, an empty state message will appear

If there are messages, the notification will display the name of the sender and that there is a new message.

Users have the ability to mark all message notifications as ready, without clicking on each message to read it.

This will clear the number from the envelope icon

This will keep the messages as unread and bolded on the inbox page

Users have the ability to search their inbox, sent, and trash tabs by keywords and names

Users can set date filters on their inbox, sent and trash tabs to filter by dates messages were sent

They can set the date filter and then utilize the search feature to narrow down the filter results even further.

Am I able to send a message to multiple people at one time?

Yes, students and guardians are able to send a message to multiple recipients if they are teachers they have active enrollments with. A teacher is able to send a message to multiple students and/or guardians either from their dashboard by selecting multiple students at once or by manually entering recipient names in the To box on the Compose page. Any message sent to students will automatically be sent to their guardians as well. There is no need for teachers to manually enter guardians in conjunction with students.

Can a teacher send a message to only a guardian and not a student at the same time?

Yes, a teacher is able to send a message from the Compose button in the inbox and manually enter the specific guardian’s name in the To box and this message will go directly to the guardian and not the student.

If I delete a message, do they permanently get deleted>

No, if you delete a message from your inbox, it will move to your trash tab. It does not get permanently deleted.

Can I reply to a message that is sent to me?

No, at this time, replies are not enabled.

Can a student send a message to another student?

No, students are only able to send messages to their teachers or moderators of groups they are a member of.

If I click on the “Mark all as read” button in my message notification menu, does that mean that my messages will be marked as read in my inbox?

No, clicking the “Mark all as read” button on the menu will only clear the message notifications from the envelope icon and it will keep the messages as unread/bolded in your inbox to review at your leisure.
