Learn to Conclude Your Course within Canvas Manually

Notes: This guide is for users who complete all courses, enrollments, and actions in Canvas and are not connected to a Student Information System (SIS). If your school is SIS integrated, please follow your student and course close out procedures as required by your SIS.

BEST PRACTICE for concluding a course is to export the gradebook before concluding. This ensures that you have a historical record of all work outcomes should an error occur. 

 

How-To Guide - Concluding a Course For All Students

NOTE: When a course is completed (end of the semester or school term) and you want to provide read-only access to the course, you should conclude the course manually in Canvas.

NOTE: Prior to concluding your course, best practice is to first export your gradebook for historical record.  

  • Select a Course from your Dashboard or from the Course List tab in the Global Navigation.

  • Select Settings.

  • Select Conclude this Course.

  • Confirm Course Conclusion.

How-To Guide - Concluding Individual Student Enrollments

  • Select a Course from your Dashboard or from the Course List tab in the Global Navigation.

  • Select the People tab.

  • Select the Kebab for the enrollment you wish to conclude. Then, select User Details from the drop down menu.

  • Select More User Details to open the Membership window.

  • Select Conclude this Enrollment. Then, select OK to confirm.
